This program is offered as a 6 class - 96 hour spa certification course or
classes can be taken individual as continuing education classes. The course
will run from July through December 2007 and then repeat again. You can begin
at any time.
Course fees: $1600, save $200. If taken individually, each class is $300. There
will be a text fee of $46.95 and some classes will have a supply fee listed
below. These classes will make you more marketable when applying or continuing
to work in spas, clinics, or as independent therapists giving you more
treatments that you can offer to a wider range of clients.

February 23 & 24, 9am-6pm LOMI LOMI CLASS
In this class you will learn a full body massage using your arms and breathe as an ocean wave cleansing, expanding, and aligning the energies of the body. This profoundly nurturing, relaxing, and energizing bodywork combines the use of breath, energy, and intention along with deep, broad and gentle flowing massage movements, whole body lymphatic drainage, compressions, deep stretching, and joint work. March 15 & 16, 9am-6pm ACTIVE ISOLATED STRETCHING
Active Isolated Stretching is a unique and effective myofascial release method that uses specific, active movements to isolate and stretch target muscles. Some of the benefits of this technique are improved circulation and joint mobility, faster recovery from muscle injuries and reduced muscle stiffness and pain. Key principles and assisted stretching protocols for chronic pain and injury treatment of the neck/shoulder and upper extremities will be presented as well as practice under supervision. March 29 & 30, 9am-6pm AYURVEDIC INSPIRED SPA BODY WORK
In this workshop, you will be introduced to ayurveda and ayurvedic spa treatments. Ayurveda, the science of life, is the extraordinary natural healing system of India that dates back 5000 years. Its body treatments bring a spiritual element to any massage practice with deeply relaxing treatments that support detoxification, relaxation, insight & mindfulness. Participants learn about individual doshas, marma points, and core concepts in ayurveda that support an understanding of external body treatments. Students will also give and receive an Indian Head Massage, an abhyanga tandem massage and an udvartana treatment (massage with an herbal paste). A shirodhara treatment (pouring a fine stream of warm sesame oil on the point between eyes) will be demonstrated. Instructor: Alla Kammers, LMP with 10 years experience has taught a wide array of classes since 1998. $300 plus $30 supply fee, 16 hours.

April 5, Saturday, 9am-4pm ETHICS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL BODY WORKER
Fulfill your NCTMB 6 hour recertification requirement, by attending this informative ethics class. Refresh and update your knowledge in an environment that is interesting, challenging, and still lots of fun. Sarah Contreras has a Masters degree in business and has been an educator for 20 years. NCTMB $80 – 6 hours.

April 19 & 20 MEDICAL MASSAGE: TREATMENT OF CERVICAL AND UPPER EXTREMETIES
In this class you will learn protocols using Trigger Point, Therapeutic Exercise, and Neuromuscular Re-Education. Learn the anatomical structures and apply kinesiology to include outcome based work with the client. Develop skills to work with the injured client with emphasis on depth, pressure, and increased palpation skills to apply appropriate touch for the different stages of healing. June 7 & 8, 9am-6pm HOT ROCK MASSAGE CERTIFICATION
Add another dimension of comfort and relaxation for your clients while eliminating undue stress on your wrists and thumbs. Learn safety, equipment, applications and proper placement of hot rocks. This class will give you the basic skills to integrate rocks into your own practice. NCTMB $300, 16 hours. |
May 17 & 18, 8:30-5:30 AROMATHERAPY
In this class you will learn to safely and effectively use essential oils in your massages. You will explore these essential oils and study their physiological and psychological effects on the body as well as learn when they are indicated and contraindicated. Blending and application methods will be discussed as well as practiced. You will learn how to incorporate essential oils into your spa and other treatments. Instructor: Kate Bromley $300 plus $10 supply fee, 16 hours. |
Nutrition for Bodyworkers Class:
Show your clients how they can incorporate basic nutrition principles to
increase health, energy, mood or achieve weight loss. Understand the healing
capabilities of foods and learn which foods & supplements will alleviate common
health conditions & decrease pain & inflammation. Learn the role of good
digestion in health and how to naturally support or restore digestive health.
The nutrition consultant certification program provides students with an
understanding of whole food nutrition as it contributes to the prevention of
illness and the promotion of optimal health. Students will learn how to conduct
dietary and lifestyle assessments, and to give relevant, individualized
nutritional advice to clients. The fundamentals of whole food nutrition,
digestion, metabolism, and nutrition research are presented. Using nutritional
therapy to improve various health conditions will be addressed. Curriculum
covers macronutrients, micronutrients and phytonutrients. Current topics such
as popular diets, organics, genetic modification and sustainable agriculture
will be explored.

The certification course consists of each module plus a midterm, final exam,
and a case study/research project. The tuition for the entire 100 hr. course is
$1350.00, payable to Denton Massage School.
